Power expressions and Examples

 

1. sort something out - to separate and arrange things

    (국문 설명) ~을 정리하다, 분류하다

    → (예문)  We sort out the recycling into four piles: paper, plastic, glass, and metal.

 

2. trade places - to switch to the position someone else is in

    (국문 설명) 자리를 바꾸다, 입장을 바꾸다

    → (예문) If you could trade places with a billionaire for a day, would you?

 

3. pitch in - to provide help; to assist

    (국문 설명) 협력하다, 부담하다, 기여하다

    → (예문) The rescue workers all pitched in to get the kitten out of the pipe.

1. 옷을 정리해서 치워 줘. (sort something out)

쫑쫑의 영작: Please sort out these clothes.

Correction: Please sor out the clothes and put them away.

 

2. 그 친절한 남자분은 내가 버스에서 여자 친구 옆에 앉을 수 있도록 나와 자리를 바꿔 주셨다. (trade places)

쫑쫑의 영작: The kind man traded places with me that I was able to sit next to my girlfriend on the bus.

Correction: The nice man traded places with me so I could sit next to my girlfriend on the bus.

 

3. 모두가 힘을 보태면 우리는 몇 분 안에 이 난장판을 치울거야. (pitch in)

쫑쫑의 영작: If everyone pitch in, we can clean this mess in a few minutes.

Correction: If everyone pitches in, we will have this mess cleaned up in minutes.
