Power expressions and Examples

 

1. hear someone out - to listen to and consider what one has to say

    (국문 설명) ~의 말을 끝까지 들어 주다

    → (예문)  The board of directors were willing to hear the potential buyers out.

 

2. lose someone/something - to no longer have someone/something

    (국문 설명) ~을 잃다

    → (예문) The team lost its two best players to injuries.

 

3. a win-win something - a transaction in which both parties will benefit

    (국문 설명) 모두에게 유리한 것, 윈윈

    → (예문) The new law is a win-win situation for both business owners and consumers.

 


 

<Power practice>

 

1. 제가 또 지각했다고 저를 해고하기로 결정하시기 전에 제 말을 끝까지 좀 들어 주세요. (hear someone out)

쫑쫑의 영작: Please hear me out before deciding to get me fired because I was late again.

Correction: Before you decide to fire me for being late again, please hear me out.

 

2. 그 건설 회사는 고속도로 보수 계약을 따지 못했다. (lose someone/something)

쫑쫑의 영작: The construction company lost the contract for the highway renewal.

Correction: The construction company lost the contract to repair the highway.

 

3. 내가 빈손으로 걸어 나가면 그건 우리 모두에게 이익이 되는 상황이 아니야! (a win-win something)

쫑쫑의 영작: If I walk forward empty-handed, it won't be a win-win situation!

Correction: It isn't a win-win situation if I walk away empty handed!
