Power expressions and Examples

 

1. clock in/out - to record the time at which one begins or ends one's work

    (출근/퇴근 시간을 기록하다)

    → (예문) My manager doesn't like anyone to clock in early to try to get extra pay. 

 

2. hard on something/someone - causing strain to something/someone

    (~에 나쁜, ~에게 힘든)

    → (예문) The rising cost of fuel has been hard on shipping companies and airlines.

 

3. work something out - ~ to find a mutually agreeable solution

    (~을 해결하다, 답을 알아내다)

    → (예문) I don't care why you were fighting. You will stay in this room until you work it out.

 

 

<Power practice>

 

1. 직원들은 근무 시간이 끝날 때 퇴근하기 위해 줄을 섰다. (clock in/out)

쫑쫑의 영작: The employees lined up to clock out when their working hours end.

Correction: The employees lined up to clock out at the end of the shift.

 

2. 더운 날씨 때문에 전력망에 무리가 갔다. (hard on something/someone)

쫑쫑의 영작: The hot weather was hard on the electricity.

Correction: The hot weather has been hard on the electricity grid.

 

3. 이벤트 매니저는 다가오는 컨벤션을 위해 세부 사항들을 해결했다. (work something out)

쫑쫑의 영작: The event manager worked out the details for the up-coming convention.

Correction: The event manager worked the details out for the upcoming convention.
