1. beggars can't be choosers - if someone gives you something you can't get, you can't complain 

    (국문 설명) 싫고 좋고 가릴 때가 아니다

    → (예문) I would've preferred a newer phone, but it was free, and beggars can't be choosers. 

 

2. gold standard - a well-accepted model of excellence for something

    (국문 설명) 최적 표준[기준]

    → (예문) This language course is the gold standard for learning Spanish.

 

3. get one's money's worth - get one's money's worth

    (국문 설명) 지불한 만큼의 대가를 얻다, 본전을 뽑다

    → (예문) My dad drove his car for 25 years, so he really got his money's worth.

 

와.. 본전을 뽑다.. 배웠던 표현이네요~

1. 이 아파트가 내가 살 수 있는 유일한 아파트여서 사 버렸어. 싫고 좋고 가릴 때가 아니야. (beggars can't be choosers)

쫑쫑의 영작: I bought this apartment because it was the only one for me to afford. Beggears can't be choosers.

Correction: This was the only apartment I could afford, so I took it. Beggars can't be choosers.(쫑쫑: 간단하게 해봅시다!)

 

2. 이 칼들은 진지한 요리사들 사이에서 최고의 표준입니다. (gold standard)

쫑쫑의 영작: These knives is gold standard among sincere cooks.

Correction: These knives are the gold standard among serious chefs.

 

3. 콘서트가 4시간이나 되어서 본전을 뽑은 것 같아. (get one's money's worth)

쫑쫑의 영작: It feels like I get my money's worth because the cocert lasted 4 hours!

Correction: The concert lasted four hours, so I feel like I got my money's worth.
