Power expressions and Examples

 

1. plead one's case - to state one's problem or complaint about something

    (국문 설명) ~의 문제나 불만을 진술하다

    → (예문)  The lawyer pled his client's case to the jury.

 

2. run a tight ship - to keep an organization running efficiently

    (국문 설명) (사람들이 바짝 다잡으며) 빈틈없이[능숙하게] 운영해 나가다

    → (예문) He runs a very tight ship up in marketing.

 

3. for starters - one's first example or reason for something

    (국문 설명) 우선 첫째로[먼저]

    → (예문) For starters, we should eliminate smoke breaks. They are completely unnecessary.

 


 

<Power practice>

 

1. 톰은 아들이 왜 17살에 차를 사야 하는지 자신의 입장을 말하게 했다. (plead one's case)

쫑쫑의 영작: Tom asked his son to plead his case why he should buy a car at 17.

Correction: Tom let his son plead his case as to why he should get a car at 17.
