Power expressions and Examples

 

1. a sense of purpose - knowing what one should do with one's life

    (목적의식)

    → (예문)  After volunteering with the Peace Corps, Sonya had a new sense of purpose.

 

2. the/those less forunate - people who live in poor conditions

    (불우한 이웃)

    → (예문) Churches help the less fortunate with the donations they receive from their members.

 

3. stamp something out - to end something such as poberty or disease

    (~을 근절하다)

    → (예문) The president said he wants to stamp out povery in the next five years.

 


 

<Power practice>

 

1. 나는 신문사에서 기자로 일하면서 목적의식을 찾았다. (a sense of purpose)

쫑쫑의 영작: I found my sense of purpose working as a journalist in the newspaper company.

Correction: I discovered my sense of purpose when I worked at a newspaper as a journalist.

 

2. 당신보다 불우한 이웃을 얕보면 안 돼요. (the/those less fortunate)

쫑쫑의 영작: You shouldn't ignore the less fortunate than you.

Correction: You shouldn't look down on those less fortunate than you.

 

3. 인종 차별을 근절하면 세상은 더 나은 곳이 될 것입니다. (stamp something out)

쫑쫑의 영작: The world will be better place if we stamp racism out.

Correction: The world will be a better place when we stamp out racial discrimination.
