I put in a lot of time and effort but still, it didn't taste good.

We use the word 'Still' for sentence No.2 because when we say - Put in a lot of time and effort, it goes to show that the subject has already tried his/her best in achieving a goal but the outcome is still bad or not as before.

Hence, we use the word 'Still' when we say-Put in a lot of effort and time. 

Many people often do not know they should add the word-Still- when they say -Put in a lot of effort and time.

So a note to remember-Use 'Still’ when we write or say 'Put in a lot of effort and time'
