No.1-If you write 'I forgot so I didn't bring', you are saying that because you forgot something, you didn't bring your ID card. 
Like you forgot something which is the reason why you didn't bring your ID Card. (쫑쫑: 한국어로는 괜찮은데 영어 설명을 들으니 약간 어색하긴 하네요.)

Sorry if I couldn't make it clear enough but when you write 'I forgot so I didn't do this or so I didn't do that', you are telling people that since you forgot something, you made the decision to not do something. (쫑쫑: 약간 연관관계가 이상하네요. ㅎㅎ)

But if we write 'I forgot to bring my pen', we are saying that we didn't bring the pen because we forgot about it.

On the other hand, if we say 'I forgot SO', we are saying we have decided to do something or don't do something since we forgot about it.

The 'SO' in your Sentence is a word that tells a final decision has been made by the author. (쫑쫑: 아! 결과, 결정, 결단 같은 것을 보여줄 때!!!)
