★ 영작으로 실력 다지기
▶ 기대하지 않았던 원어민님 첨삭이 왔네요 :) 고마워요!
Our daughter has reached an age where she is able to have a conversation with us/where she is old enough to have a conversation with us/where she is mature enough to have a conversation with us. (쫑쫑: 대체할 수 있는 문장이 수도 없이 많군요!)
My beloved Amber, if using the word 'To have a conversation' sounds too boring or repetitive, you can use these words instead:
Old enough/mature enough to hold a proper conversation
(쫑쫑: 오! 앞으로 이 표현을 많이 써보는걸로 하겠습니다. :)
hold a conversation대화를 나누다.
have[hold] a conversation with…와 이야기하다
hold[have, carry on] a conversation with…와 대화하다
hold a conversation with......와 회담하다.
to hold a convention대회를 열다
To hold a basic conversation
To hold a decent conversation
No.2-Both are correct. (쫑쫑: 요건 지난번에 설명해주셔서 알고 있었지용. ^^)
Was is the past tense of Is.
Would be is the past tense of will be.
If you use 'Was' in the sentence, you are saying that in the past you really did that specific thing. Sort of like you really did that thing.
For example: Back in 2016, I was making cookies. This sentence shows us that in 2016, I really made cookies.
Would be is used to show future tense and past tense but since your sentence is in the past tense, 'Would be' refers to an imaginary situation. (쫑쫑: 'would be'는 완연한 사실을 말하는 건 아니죠.)
For example, you say: I thought you would always be my side-meaning that I assumed and perhaps, I imagined that you will always be my side.
He thought she would be a liar, but was proven wrong-meaning that he imagined in his mind or he assumed she would appear as a liar to him when she was not.
So Amber, because your sentence uses the word 'Thought-I thought', it must use the word 'would be' to show that you imagined or assumed it would be difficult when actually it was hard. (쫑쫑: 몇 번이고 반복해서 읽어볼게요.)
I thought means I assumed so of course, you have to use a word to show assumption or possibility or show that a person is imagining a scenario, that word is 'Would'.
My beloved Amber, this was a long explanation, my apologies if all is not explained well because not many can explain grammar well enough to be understood. However, I'll try my best fit u. (쫑쫑: Not at all. Don't worry. I know you always get to the heart of the matter. :)
